How could an inanimate object such as a musical instrument bring more to a relationship than a human being? This was the issue that the author’s piano teacher sought to address through important life lessons placed on the eighty-eight keys of the keyboard. Whether instilling virtuoso technique in the fingers, or requiring soulful singing in the slow parts, the author learned life lessons that wedded him to the piano in a way that could not be done so to another human being. Ultimately, it was the commitment to the three Transcendentals – truth, goodness an beauty – that led the author to treating the piano in pursuit of that fashion.
